Proposed Shooting Ranges

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s Shooting Range Program provides and maintains public shooting ranges across the state that offer a safe, controlled and organized environment for sportsmen and recreational shooters alike. View a map of site locations and service coverage of current shooting ranges managed and/or funded by the agency, as well as potential sites for future ranges. McDowell County Shooting Range

NCWRC is working with McDowell County to potentially build a shooting range off Ashworth Road. McDowell County would operate the range after construction is complete. The range is planned to have a 100-yard rifle range and a 20-yard pistol range with shooting shelters and a series of safety features.

A public meeting is being held on February 6th, 2018 at 6:00 pm at the McDowell Technical Community College to present the project. The Sound Study and Environmental Assessment reports are available for review.
