Boating Access Area Event Permits

North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) issues fishing tournament Weigh-in and Special Use permits for each NCWRC-managed Boating Access Area (BAA) to ensure only allowable activities occur.  Permits are issued at no fee.

Not all BAAs are owned by NCWRC. Additional permits from the BAA owners (e.g., Duke Energy, Alcoa-Yadin) may be required depending on the activity or request. Special Use Permit applications are issued for larger fishing tournaments that use more than one parking space for weigh-in activities, events using tents, and construction, which are issued on a case-by-case basis. Permit applications must be submitted online at least ten days in advance.

Permits will not be issued for the following holiday weekends: Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and Labor Day.

All groups should be aware that these permits do not reserve a BAA. This means the site will remain available to other boaters and anglers, so it's important to be considerate and mindful of others.

Permits are issued with the following conditions:

  • The tournament or other special use must not interfere with the area's intended use.
  • The permitted activity should not block the ramps or disrupt area use.
  • NCWRC promotes the 'Pack it in, Pack it out ‘mission, meaning that the permit recipient must ensure all litter generated at the site by event participants is properly collected and disposed of off-site. This includes any waste from food, packaging, or other event-related materials.
  • It's important to note that the permit must be available on-site during the event for inspection by Wildlife Enforcement Officers. This ensures that you are prepared and compliant with the regulations.
  • NCWRC does not allow selling goods, materials, or services at any BAA.
