Mission

The mission of the NCWRC Swift Water Team is to save lives by utilizing specialized boating skills and equipment to provide a rapid response to weather events and disasters by conducting search, rescue, and recovery for victims in water accidents of every sort and description.

NCWRC Swift Water teams are strategically located statewide capable of responding on short notice to any location and provide relief to victims and the communities through the rapid deployment of properly trained and equipped personnel that can seamlessly integrate into the entire NC SAR Program.
 

Swift Water Team Functions 

  • Search, rescue, and recovery of victims in swift water environments.
  • Searches outdoor environments or other locations using appropriate search equipment and techniques which may include technical rope rescue, hasty searches, grid searching for evidence or clues, aerial searches, or helicopter operations. 
  • Provides emergency medical care including Basic Life Support (BLS) for victims in need of medical attention. 
  • Transport individuals to the nearest location for secondary air or land transport. 
  • Provide shore-based and boat-based water rescue.
  • Operate in environments with or without infrastructure, including those with compromised access to roadways, utilities, transportation, and medical facilities, and with limited availability of shelter, food, and water.
  • Provide drone support for all water rescues
