Wildlife Resources Commission has teamed up with various cities, counties, state parks and other organizations so that North Carolinians (and visitors) may borrow rods, reels and other fishing gear free of charge. Mountain Heritage Trout Waters Program The Mountain Heritage Trout Waters program is a cooperative effort between the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission and local governments to encourage trout fishing as a heritage tourism activity in western North Carolina cities that are designated as a “Mountain Heritage Trout Water City.” Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program If you’ve ever fished for trout in cold, mountain waters, hunted turkeys on a public game land or launched your boat into a lake, reservoir, river or sound in North Carolina then you have played a significant role in helping the N.C.
