Trackchair Program
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission values the right of all individuals to experience and enjoy wildlife-associated recreation and the outdoors. To provide this opportunity to individuals with limited mobility, the WRC, with the help of generous donors like the N.C. Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus, offers eight Action Trackchairs® (Model ST20) across the state.
The WRC is committed to providing greater access to hunting, fishing, shooting sports, birding, wildlife-watching, and other wildlife-associated recreation opportunities for individuals of all abilities.
Trackchairs are available on a first-come, first-reserved basis at no cost. Track chairs may be checked out by the user or their companion (companions are required for users under 18 years of age) for up to 6 days and used across North Carolina. New reservation system coming soon! In the meantime, please email track.chairs@ncwildlife.org for more information or to make a reservation.
Trackchairs can be used on open game lands and other accessible and open public and private land. Always verify accessibility ahead prior to your trip by contacting the appropriate management organization (i.e., U.S. Forest Service, NC State Parks , etc.). Trackchairs can be used on private property with permission from the landowner. Trackchairs must be picked-up and dropped-off at designated WRC locations. If special accommodations are needed for pick-up or use, individuals must have someone to assist them. WRC staff cannot provide assistance.
Each Trackchair is stored in a 6x8 enclosed tow-behind trailer (standard 2” ball hitch and 12-volt 7-pin wiring harness plug required) with an outside electrical cord outlet for easy transportation and charging.
Trackchairs are equipped with rubberized tracks and two 12-volt batteries, allowing the user to overcome many types of terrain for up to five hours or seven miles. Each one is outfitted with a fishing rod and long gun holder, but can be used for hunting, fishing, shooting, wildlife-watching, birding, and many other outdoor activities.

Trackchairs provide a smooth ride on concrete, and can access terrain like sand, ice, dirt, and gravel. However, the Trackchair should not be operated on more than a 20-degree slope, and all inclines like small logs or curbs should be approached at an angle. The Trackchair can tip over in any direction on inclines. Additionally, wet snow, clay, and mud will decrease traction.
If you are operating the Trackchair in wet conditions, “You can drive in water about 8-10” deep; just avoid covering the tops of the batteries. You do NOT want to submerge the motor controller that is under your seat or your motors.”
Lastly, "Action Manufacturing Inc. does not recommend operating your Trackchair in the salt water, although our Trackchairs are powder coated to the highest quality with very durable powder coat, salt water is very corrosive and causes problems with powder coat and metal. If your Trackchair has been exposed to salt water, rinse the Trackchair completely with fresh water and dry off immediately."
