Van Camp Family Shooting Range at YMCA Camp Hanes

The Van Camp Family Shooting Range is a partnership with the N.C. Wildlife Resource Commission. The range will serve guests of YMCA Camp Hanes, Summer Camp participants, shooting sports teams and be open to the general public. Operated by YMCA Camp Hanes.

Operating Hours: 

  • January-February: Tuesday - Saturday 9am-5pm.
  • March – May: 20 hours when not used by Camp Hanes guest.  Tues-Sat 12pm to 5pm.
  • June-August: Closed to Public.
  • September-November: 20 hours when not used by Camp Hanes guest.  Tues-Sat 12pm to 5pm.
  • December: Tuesday – Saturday 9am – 5pm.

Cost:  $10 an hour, $20 an hour with use of Camp Hanes equipment.

Amenities:

  • 50-yard rifle range
  • Practice archery
  • All facilities are ADA accessible

1. Sign in with the Safety Range Officer at the Rifle Range Shed.  If the gate is closed come to the Reynolds Center.

2. Leave all firearms in your vehicle until after the sign-in process is complete.

3. Attend a safety briefing.

4. Complete and sign a range waiver, online as well as paper forms available. 

5. All firearms must be cased (not holstered) and unloaded when entering or leaving the range.

6. Only .22 caliber rimfire firearms are allowed on the range.

7. Patrons must wear eye and ear protection at all times.

8. Open-toed shoes, low-cut shirts, or an article of clothing presenting a safety hazard are NOT permitted on the firing line.

9. Patrons may be limited to 1-hour on each range at the RSO’s discretion.

10. Paper or cardboard targets ONLY (not supplied).

11. Outside target stands are NOT allowed.

12. No rapid fire or uncontrolled firing on any range.

13. Park in approved parking areas only.

14. No animals on the range property, except service animals.

15. Concealed handguns shall remain in the patron’s vehicle.

16. Violation of the range rules are grounds for immediate expulsion from the range at the discretion of the Range Safety Officer.

17. No firearms are allowed on the archery range.

18. Only field points are allowed on the archery range, no broadheads are allowed.

To drive to the Shooting Range please follow signage and drive towards the Equestrian Center and The Van Camp Family Shooting Range.
