Wake County Firearms Education and Training Center

The range's reservation will go offline starting June 6th while we transition to a new reservation system, which is not scheduled to come online until September. During this period, the range will remain open but operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please see below how the range will operate in the short term. Operating Hours: Monday 5 pm - 9 pm, Friday 5 pm - 9 pm, Saturday-Sunday 9 am - 7 pm. Closed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

The range may be closed for events, cleaning, maintenance, and select holidays. Please see refer to the range closed calendar.

Use of the facility and reservations are free.


Amenities:

  • 100-meter rifle range (Rifle Only)(Min 50-Meters)
  • 50-meter Rifle Only (25-Meters Min)
  • 10-meter Pistol-only
  • Universally accessible
  • Indoor Range, but not temperature controlled.


Other Information:

  • Leave all firearms in your vehicle until assigned a lane.
  • All firearms must be cased.
  • No loaded Magazines. All Ammo must be inspected before entering the range.
  • Those ages 12-17 wishing to shoot must have a Youth Waiver. No one under the age of 12 is permitted to shoot.
  • There is no store on-site. Visitors must bring ammunition and targets.           


Procedure for New patrons or patrons with an expired range pass:

  1. Upon arrival at the range, patrons will leave all firearms in their vehicle.
  2. Patrons will check in at the front desk and provide a government-issued photo ID.
  3. If this is the patron's first time at the range, they will need to complete the safety briefing. Please see the safety briefing schedule for times. (Note: you can complete the safety briefing and shoot on the same day).
  4. The patron will then attend the range safety briefing, fill out a range pass, and complete the waiver inside the safety briefing classroom.
  5. After the patron completes the safety brief and signs the waiver, they will head outside and retrieve their firearms and gear.
  6. Patrons will wait outside in the designated area until it is time for them to enter the range.
  7. Patrons will then be guided inside with their firearms and equipment at the bottom of each hour.
  8. Patrons will then head to their assigned lane and follow all of the RSO's commands. They will be limited to 50 minutes of live fire.


Range Safety Briefing Schedule:

If this is your first time at the Wake County Firearms Education and Training Center, you must attend a safety briefing before using the range. You may attend the safety briefing and use the range on the same day. Please see the Procedure for New patrons or patrons with an expired range pass for what to do when you arrive at the range. Below are the times the safety briefing will be conducted. You arrive and check in at the front desk at least 10 minutes before the start of the safety briefing. If you don’t check in before the start of the briefing, you must wait until the next available time.

Procedure for patrons with current range pass:

  1. Upon arrival at the range, patrons will leave all firearms in their vehicle.
  2. Patrons will check in at the front desk and provide a government-issued photo ID.
  3. Patrons will then be assigned a shooting lane, depending on what type of firearm they are using.
  4. The patron will then sign a waiver using the iPads or QR code in the lobby.
  5. After the patron signs the waiver, they will head outside and retrieve their firearms and equipment.
  6. Patrons will wait outside in the designated area until it is time for them to enter the range.
  7. Patrons will then be guided inside with their firearms and equipment at the bottom of each hour.
  8. Patrons then head to their assigned Lane and follow all of the RSO's commands. Patrons will be limited to 50 minutes of live fire.


Schedule For Shooting Times:

Please see the Procedure for Patrons with Current Range Passes for what to do when you arrive at the range. Below is the schedule for the shooting times. You must check in at the front desk at least 10 minutes before the start of the shooting time. This is a first-come, first-served service. If you don’t check in at least 10 minutes before the start of the Shooting time, you will not be allowed to shoot during that timeframe and must wait until the next hour.

FREE Basic Handgun Shooting and Safety Training

This Free introductory handgun training is a three-hour class with a 4:1 ratio of students to instructors. The training includes classroom instruction about the operation and safety of various handguns. Students will learn the following:

  • The four fundamental pistol safety rules.
  • The basic knowledge, skills, and mindset to safely handle a handgun
  • Nomenclature and function of both semi-automatic and revolver handguns.
  • The five fundamentals of marksmanship
  • About the components of ammunition
  • Cleaning and maintenance of handguns
  • Live Fire Exercise
